Understanding Updated Measurement Lines with Snapping

Introduction: The goal of our updated measurement line framework is to allow you to place doors & windows with greater precision.

Measurement lines are now shown between wall items, complementing the existing measurements.

Guides dynamically appear when adjacent wall items are distributed equally or aligned. An additional snapping capability to these guides make creating symmetrical wall layouts easier.

We’ve moved the measurement badge below the building perimeter and above the wall item for greater visibility. And our badges accommodate fractional notations, making them more space efficient.

One important note about our measurement lines: IdeaRoom is not designed to be an engineering-accurate representation of your buildings. We strive for accuracy, but our measurement lines may slightly differ from your physical buildings. Measurement lines are most useful to indicate relative placement of wall items. If you see errors in your measurements, please contact support@idearoom.com. We’ll work with you to improve accuracy, but we may not be able to accommodate every request.

Measurement Line Specifics: Our updated UI shows several measurements:

BASIC MEASUREMENT LINES

When a single asset is added to a wall, the user will see a set of measurements that indicate:

  • Distance of the top of the asset to the base of the building (vertical)

  • Distance of the left side of the asset to the left corner of the building (horizontal). This is shown at both the top and the bottom of the asset.

  • Distance of the right side of the asset to the right corner of the building (horizontal). This is shown at both the top and the bottom of the asset.

Users can add a second asset to the wall. If the assets are not aligned, clicking on each will show the unique set of measurement properties for that asset as outlined above:

RELATIONAL MEASUREMENT LINES

  • If two assets come within a certain distance of one another on the face of a wall, they will “snap” to an aligned height.

  • When aligned, a red measurement line will show the distance of the top of both assets to the base of the building (vertical).

  • A red measurement line will also show the distance between assets (horizontal).

In the above example, the far right window is selected. It is aligned with two other windows.

Therefore, the red vertical line demonstrates their shared distance from the bottom of the building, and the red horizontal lines demonstrates their distances from one another.

The blue measurements continue to represent the distance of the selected window from each side of the building (16’3” from the left, and 5’7” from the right).
