What Are DNS Records?

DNS (Domain Name System) records are like an address book for the internet. They help translate human-friendly web addresses (like http://www.example.com ) into computer-friendly IP addresses (like 192.0.2.1). DNS records are essential for directing traffic on the internet and ensuring that when someone types a domain name into their browser, they are taken to the correct website.

Common Types of DNS Records:

A Record: Links a domain to a physical IP address.

CNAME Record: Redirects one domain to another domain, allowing multiple services (like email and a website) to be hosted from a single IP address.

MX Record: Directs email to an email server.

TXT Record: Provides text notes to sources outside your domain; often used for security or verification purposes.
